Look at a new system Kreeo that can be very successfully used for Web research (Web clipping).
Kreeo developers in India describe their system as a Knowledge Management platform:
“} Kreeo is a knowledge management (structured and unstructured) platform for the enterprises and masses with dynamic portal support“
Kreeo as a KM platform can be used as a
- Web research (online research) tool
- Web clipping tool
- note taking (capturing) and saving tool
- social discussion tool (forums, question-answers, polls)
- blog
- storage for knowledge (concepts with descriptions and detail info at lower level)
- public and personal tool
- communication tool
- and more.
They enable to save information of different types (text, graphic, photo).
You can very easy capture info from the Web and save both in your personal notebook (you can create a number of notebooks) or public notebook ( ERROR – NO PUBLIC NOTEBOOKS – I have received such a comment from kreeo developer).
As Kreeo is beta not all features are operating now. I am waiting for a feature – capturing info from RSS as I browse each day a lot of RSS and I should like to save my selected info.
There are more usefull features and shall write about them later.
Kreeo is beta so far but and now you can use it for a lot of different purposes.

I see that my blog visitors are interested in Web research tools for education and students.
Therefore I should like to recommend students and lecturers an interesting article Engaging Students as Researchers through Internet use.
A short excerpt
“Information Gathering: students appreciated a wide range of options and felt that the Internet allowed them more choices. They also expressed awareness of the pitfalls of searching the Web and cautioned against gathering too much information without focusing their topic or evaluating their results as they progressed in their research.
Discovery: students appreciated the exposure to new perspectives and areas of research–essentially the increased opportunity for serendipitous events.
Connectivity: students liked the brainstorming aspect of Web searches and how they would return to their searching strategy as new information appeared. Students also made connections in terms of sequencing tasks and developed a sense of the connections emerging between their sources.
Evaluation: students want to read a lot of articles to find the “best ones.” They expressed awareness of practicing more caution in their choices and understood the need to look at sites for the publisher’s bias.“

I have started to test an interesting tool Webnotes.
It enables (info from their homepage)
”’
”
-
With WebNotes you can highlight text and stick notes to web pages.
-
All highlights and notes are stored in folders within your WebNotes account.
-
Pages you annotate can be shared through email or online links’‘
I have downloaded it as a Firefox extension,. You can use and with IE.
It has very simple tutorial – pay attention that you can repeat studying of each page a few times. There is no mark that you have ended.
Very useful that you can collect snippets with automated saving of the title and URL. You can add your sticky note as well.
Later you can publish selecting different parts of your saved info, e.g. ALL (Title, URL, note, your snippet (selected info) and surrounding info) and only reference info (title and URL).
You can publish both HTML or pdf.
It would be nice if Webnotes operated faster.
